Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Maya moved to the East Coast to attend the Photography and Imaging Program at NYU’s Tisch School. After graduating, Maya worked at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, where photographers such as Miguel Gandert, Sean Kernan and Norman Mauskopf influenced her. Moving back to New York in 2005, she assisted the legendary portrait photographer, Arnold Newman. Currently she is working on several local photography projects. Paying close attention to her urban surroundings, Maya uses photography and an historical context to collaborate with her subjects.  Maya also works at artnet, creating an online public library of digital catalogues for well-established artists.
